Open Call: Invitation to Board Service

You’re invited!

Washington Women’s Foundation is entering an important period of growth and focus. If you are interested in playing a greater leadership role in the Foundation and helping guide our work in the years ahead, we invite you to consider serving on our Board of Directors.

Each year, we open a call for members who are interested in board service. We anticipate several openings beginning January 1, 2027, for three-year terms (which may be renewed). Our recruitment process is an open call, and we welcome interested members to apply.

Why Board Service Now?

For more than three decades, Washington Women’s Foundation has mobilized collective giving to advance equity across Washington State. Through our member-led model, we bring people together to learn, invest, and act in support of lasting social change.

As we look ahead, we are strengthening our focus on building a more robust ecosystem of support for women and girls through bold philanthropy, shared learning, and deeper community engagement. Our approach emphasizes multi-year, trust-based funding, stronger statewide connections, and support for organizations driving meaningful change.

Board members play a key role in helping steward this work and shape the impact we can achieve together across Washington.

The Role of the Board

The Board of Directors provides governance and mission-based leadership for the Foundation. Working in partnership with the President & CEO and staff, the Board helps guide strategic direction, ensure financial stewardship, and support the long-term sustainability of the organization.

Board members also serve as ambassadors for Washington Women’s Foundation—sharing our story, welcoming new members, and strengthening the community that makes our collective giving model possible.

What We Look for in Board Directors

We Value Community, Courage, Curiosity, and Care. We believe meaningful change grows from community and a commitment to racial and gender equity. We lead with courage and transparency, stay curious and committed to learning, and hold ourselves accountable to those we serve. Above all, we center care—creating spaces where women and girls feel valued, connected, and empowered.

We seek applicants who bring expertise in outreach, marketing, and community engagement, as well as in nonprofit governance, law, finance, and strategic planning. Board members must value perspectives and lived experiences that reflect the rich diversity of communities across Washington State and commit to helping the Board guide our collective work with insight and impact.

The Recruitment Process

Interested candidates are invited to submit a brief statement of interest by May 31, 2026. Members of the Governance Committee will connect with applicants to learn more about their interest in board service and discuss the responsibilities and expectations of directors.

From this pool, the Governance Committee will recommend a slate of candidates to the Board for approval. The slate will then be presented to the membership for a vote at the Foundation’s Annual Meeting in October.

Learn More

If you are curious about board service, we encourage you to register for our upcoming Board Service Information Session on May 7th at noon. This session will provide an overview of board responsibilities, time commitments, and the recruitment timeline. If you are unable to attend, please contact our Governance Chair aruvc@hotmail.com or our CEO, Maria Kolby-Wolfe at ceo@wawomensfdn.org to express your interest in leadership.

Board members must be members of Washington Women’s Foundation.

If you are inspired by our mission and interested in contributing your leadership to advance equity for women and girls, we encourage you to apply.
