Convening 2023 (OPEN TO ALL)

September 21, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Join us for the Washington Women’s Foundation (WaWF) second annual Convening on Thursday, September 21st, 2023, at Town Hall in Seattle!

The Convening is a call to action that brings together speakers, writers, thinkers, community leaders and essential nonprofit directors to educate the WaWF community on the most pressing concerns within our annual funding and learning themes. Our themes for Convening 2023 are Arts and Community Culture; Housing and Hunger; and Law, Justice, and Incarceration.

Convening 2023 is a crucial first step in determining our 2024 grantmaking and learning priorities. Convening will feature a variety of speakers, with deep knowledge of our three themes, who are reflective of and embedded in the communities they serve. Together, we will learn from these experts, changemakers, and community organizers driving equitable, transformative solutions to Washington’s most pressing challenges.

The morning panel will discuss Law, Justice, and Incarceration, wonderfully moderated by Camerina Zorrozua of The Way to Justice with insights from Abigail Scholar of Central Washington Justice for our Neighbors, Judge Veronica Galvan of the King County Superior Court, Virla Spencer of The Way to Justice and David Heppard of the Freedom Project

After lunch, we will hear from unique perspectives on Arts and Community Culture. This conversation will be moderated by Vivian Phillips of Arte Noir and enhanced by the ideas of Kathy Hsieh of the Seattle Office of Arts and Culture, Asia Tail of yehaw, Thomas Grant Richardson of Center for Washington Cultural Traditions and Ginger Ewing of Terrain

The last panel will discover the creative work being done in Housing and Hunger in Washington State. This will be led by Alison Eisinger of the King County Coalition on Homelessness, with insight from Marley Hochendoner of NW Fair Housing Alliance, Lindsay Goes Behind of the Chief Seattle Club, Tye Reed of House Our Neighbors, and Christina Wong of Northwest Harvest!

After the Convening, all attendees are invited to share suggestions for priorities within each of our three themes, so we encourage the wider community to join us and help shape our grantmaking and education for next year!

Convening 2023 will be held in person at Town Hall, with virtual access, from approximately 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. The Convening will include three ninety-minute panels with time for discussion during the day. Lunch is included and we hope you’ll join us for a reception afterwards. The event is open to the full WaWF membership and the public, free of charge.
