Norms for Engaging in Courageous Conversations with Cultures Connecting (MEMBERS ONLY)

November 1, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Virtual Event

Join trainers from Cultures Connecting to widen your skill set and develop strategies to dismantle institutional racism.

One of the most common questions I get asked when facilitating conversations on race is “What can I do?” There are many things that can and should be done to dismantle institutional racism. Including learning to have effective conversations about racism. If we don’t talk about racism, we can’t identify institutional racism in our organizations, and therefore dismantle it. We all have different experiences and perspectives on race depending on our racial identity and where we come from. This often leads to tension and conflict in cross cultural interactions. Typical, unspoken norms we use to engage in everyday conversations don’t work when talking about race. So, what does? In this workshop participants learn seven tools to guide them in having effective conversations about race, racism, and race relations, adapted from the work of Glenn Singleton.
Objectives—Participants will:
1) Learn tools and strategies for how to engage in cross cultural interactions.
2) Individually identify what is most difficult for them in race conversations and commit to practicing a new way of engaging.
3) Deepen their understanding of the need for explicit norms to guide our conversations.
