Learn about the committees and teams that power WaWF’s grantmaking and strengthen our impact in the community.

The Advocacy Grant Program supports organizations advancing systemic change for women and girls through advocacy that addresses root causes of inequity. Recognizing that meaningful change requires sustained investment, the program awards one organization a three-year, $150,000 grant ($50,000 annually), plus up to five $2,000 merit awards. Committee members participate in education, applicant review, discussions, conversations with applicants, and approximately 19 hours of service. Join Advocacy Grant Committee here.

The Grassroots Grant Program supports emerging, community-based organizations improving the lives of women and girls in Washington State, particularly those affected by inequity. Focused on groups with budgets under $500,000, the program awards at least two $20,000 grants through a community voting process at the PopUp event. Committee members review applicants, participate in education and meetings, and contribute approximately 13–15 hours of service. Join Grassroots Grant Committee here.

The Place-Based Grant Program supports organizations serving women and girls within a specific Washington State region, using a place-based approach to deepen understanding of local challenges, assets, and opportunities. The program awards one organization a three-year, $150,000 grant ($50,000 annually), plus up to five $2,000 merit awards. Committee members collaborate with local community experts, participate in educational activities, review applications, and select the grantee and merit award winners over the course of a 4-day weekend on location. By focusing on a different geographic area over time and traveling to the area in question, the program strengthens community connections and expands understanding of the diverse needs of women and girls across Washington. The Direct Services Grant Program supports organizations delivering direct services that improve the lives of women and girls. Through a multi-year funding commitment, the program awards one grant of $50,000 annually for three years, along with up to five $2,000 merit awards. Committee members participate in training focused on gender-lens philanthropy and social change, review applications, engage with applicants, and attend committee meetings. The grant selection process takes place from March through May and requires an estimated 17–19 hours of service. Email programs@wawomensfdn.org with any questions or your interest.

GET builds partnerships with WaWF grantees in order to support their work more meaningfully. GET meets year-round, every other month. GET is made up of engagement teams of about two people, one team for each grantee that elects to participate. Our commitment is to follow up with each grantee for two years, so we ask for a 2-year commitment from members. Email programs@wawomensfdn.org with any questions or your interest. The Convening Committee plans and coordinates our annual day-long education event, Convening. Each year at Convening, members and the general public explore vital themes through expert panel discussions, community dialogue, and breakout conversations. Our 2026 Convening themes are: Women and Immigration; Women and Healthcare; and Women, Democracy, and Public Life. This committee is for members who would relish being on a working committee with clear, time-sensitive tasks. Committee members reach out to Washington thought leaders, design panels, create connections across Washington for educating members and the public, and shape one of the Foundation’s keystone events. Help grow the impact of Washington Women’s Foundation by supporting fundraising, membership growth, and communications initiatives. Development/Communications Committee members serve as ambassadors for WaWF, provide strategic guidance, help identify new supporters and partners, and collaborate with staff and board leaders to advance organizational goals. The committee meets regularly throughout the year and offers a meaningful opportunity to shape the Foundation’s future while strengthening its community of women philanthropists. The WaWF Board of Directors provides governance, strategic leadership, and financial stewardship to advance the Foundation’s mission of supporting women and girls across Washington State. Board members partner with staff to guide organizational strategy, ensure long-term sustainability, and serve as ambassadors who strengthen membership, donor engagement, and community connections. The Foundation seeks leaders who value community, courage, curiosity, and care, and who bring expertise in areas such as nonprofit governance, finance, law, strategic planning, outreach, or community engagement.
