At Washington Women’s Foundation, we believe it is the collective wisdom, experience, and strength of women that will break barriers and open opportunities for women and girls in Washington state.

We trust women. We believe women. And we know that as women, we are uniquely qualified and positioned to support and uplift women and girls.

Our community reaches across generations, cultures, experiences, and geographies to identify and fund solutions that work for all women and girls.

We are the only Washington State foundation focused exclusively on women and girls, and we are strengthening our collective power to create generational change.

The Problem and Our Solution

Women’s lives and futures are being held back.

Existing funding and resources for the organizations that support women and girls in our state do not meet community needs, and philanthropic coordination to address these troubling realities is limited.  Women have always had hard work to do. Today, the need is as great as ever that we work to support women and girls.

Did You Know That…

  • Only 2.04% of philanthropic funding goes to support organizations or programs for women and girls.
  • By 9th grade, 70% of girls have thought seriously about careers – but 58% do not believe they are smart enough for their dream job. 89% feel pressure to conform to gender stereotypes in their career choices.
  • Washington state has the 2nd largest gender wage gap in the country.
  • Women of color in Washington state earn as little as 45 cents on the dollar to white, non-Hispanic men.
  • Washington ranks as the 11th least affordable state for childcare.
  • Washington ranks 22nd in the nation for percent of women in poverty, despite having the 3rd highest GDP per capita.*
