SUMMARY:MET: Japanese Garden Tour (MEMBERS ONLY)
DESCRIPTION:Come join fellow WaWF members in touring the Seattle Japanese Garden. Our guide will be WaWF member and certified guide\, Alice Cunningham. \nWhen: Wednesday\, April 9\, 2025\, at11:30am. \nWhere: Seattle Japanese Garden ( https://www.seattlejapanesegarden.org) \nLunch:  to follow afterwards at Jae’s Asian Bistro and Sushi (https://www.jaesasianbistroandsushi-seattle.com). We will carpool to this nearby restaurant. \nCost: $10 for adults\, $7 for 65+adults \nRegister here for the Japanese Garden Tour!\nIf you’ve watched the TV mini-series “Shogun” you’ll know that one Lord out fought and out witted the other feudal lords to unify Japan after several centuries of brutal fighting. That Lord\, Tokugawa\, ruled that all the other feudal lords had to move to Tokyo\, but their families had to stay in their respective castles. They were not allowed to travel. Stuck at home the families looked for a way to ease their boredom. \nThe development of stroll gardens large in scale and created for enjoyment meant that these stay-at-home families could experience the idea of traveling. Our own Japanese Garden in the Washington Park Arboretum was designed as just that type of stroll garden dating from the early years of the Edo Period (1603-1868). \nJoin us for a tour of this unique beautiful garden at the height of spring.  Please email christineatkins1@gmail.com with any questions.

SUMMARY:MET: Seattle Japanese Garden + Dinner (MEMBERS + FRIENDS)
DESCRIPTION:The Membership Experience Team (MET) will be inviting you to some special social and educational events this spring and summer. It will be a chance to finally have time to catch up with old friends and meet new ones in person! The goal of MET is to increase and maintain membership by engaging members in activities that are social\, activities that explore and educate\, and activities that highlight WaWF’s strategic plan and values. We hope that all members will feel a part of this committee\, their work and share any ideas you have or can offer for activities to encourage participation. \nCome out and enjoy a spring event with your fellow WaWF members on April 4th  at the Seattle Japanese Garden in Madison Park. The garden is having a free lecture on the history of the tea ceremony and we will follow the lecture with a no-host dinner at nearby Nishino Japanese restaurant at 5:45pm. Seattle may consider itself a long time coffee town\, but the Japanese tea ceremony has been going on since the 9th century! Entrance is free at the garden all day on April 4th. \nPlan to meet at 3:00pm at the entrance to walk around the garden before the lecture. The tea ceremony lecture is from 4:00pm-5:30pm and will be held in the community room. We have 5:45pm reservations for up to 8 people at Nishino’s located just across the street from the Garden. Parking is available at the Garden. \nRegistration has now closed – the event is full. Please email programs@wawomensfdn.org to be added to the waitlist.\nPlease direct questions to MET co-leader\, Christine Atkins at christinetatkins1@gmail.com or 206-849-9802. This event is open to WaWF members and their guests!
