SUMMARY:2024 PopUP! for Women & Girls! (SOLD OUT)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fast-paced\, fun-filled evening of collective giving where together we’ll learn about\, pitch and select our 2024 Women & Girls Grantees!  PopUP! is an interactive celebration of women\, of girls\, of organizations creating equitable opportunities for women and girls across Washington State\, and of the power of collective philanthropy. \nAt WaWF\, one of our cherished values is to elevate and amplify the power of all who identify as women. Supported by the WFA Fund for Women\, we offer the Women & Girls Grant to organizations focused on women and girls within the year’s chosen priorities: Mental Health + Housing\, Expanding Access to Art in Schools and Re-entry Support. The PopUP! is the culmination of the work of the Women & Girls Grant Committee.   \nOur working definition of gender identity is a person’s internal\, deeply held sense of their gender. As such\, we define women and girls as individuals whose gender identity is as a woman or girl. For the Women & Girls grant program\, we intend to fund with an intersectional lens and aim to support organizations that foster more equitable opportunities for women and girls.    \nThis event is in person at the National Nordic Museum at 2655 NW Market St in Seattle\, WA from 5:00 to 7:30 PM on Wednesday\, December 4th 2024. Everyone is welcome. Tickets are $50 each. Festive drinks and heavy appetizers are included with ticket purchase.   \nParking is located first-come\, first-serve in the National Nordic Museum’s lot (behind the museum) for $2 an hour – consider carpooling or taking public transportation! Please direct questions to programs@wawomensfdn.org.  \nRegistration is closed for this event. Please email katherine@wawomensfdn.org to be added to the waitlist.\nThanks to our generous sponsors: \n \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:Securing a Multiracial Democracy: In Conversation with Steve Phillips (OPEN TO ALL)
DESCRIPTION:Join political leader\, columnist and bestselling author Steve Phillips and local civic organizations for a discussion on race\, elections\, and how our modern day dilemmas are an extension of a fight that dates back to the Civil War. \nIn his new book\, How We Win the Civil War\, Phillips warns that the Confederates never really stopped fighting the Civil War\, that conservatives are taking full advantage of this reality\, and that those in denial imperil our democracy. \nWith his trademark blend of political analysis and historical argument\, Phillips lays out razor-sharp prescriptions\, from increasing voter participation and demolishing racist immigration policies to reviving the Great Society programs of the 1960s—all of them geared toward strengthening a new multiracial democracy and ridding our politics of white supremacy\, once and for all. \nThe event will feature an interview with Phillips\, audience Q&A\, and opportunities to get engaged with local civic organizations\, working to create a multiracial democracy that works for all of us. \nThis event is co-hosted by the Washington Women’s Foundation\, Progress Alliance of Washington\, and Social Venture Partners Seattle. \nClick here to register for Securing a Multiracial Democracy!

SUMMARY:Gender Justice Training (MEMBERS ONLY)
DESCRIPTION:Join us Tuesday\, October 8th\, 2024\, at the Washington Women’s Foundation for a Gender Justice training with the Epiphanies of Equity team! By deepening our understanding of contemporary gender dynamics\, we aim to enhance the quality of our grant decisions\, nonprofit partnerships and relationships\, and help cultivate a more welcoming world. From book bans to the #metoo movement\, to the fall of Roe v. Wade\, to legislation in many states targeting queer and trans folks – gender injustice is all around us\, demanding our attention\, understanding\, and action. This training will cover core concepts\, key terms and empower folks to think broadly and critically about the world of gender. These activities may explore topics such as gender identity versus expression and the role of intersectionality. \nEOE uses a framework known as the psychosocial basis of equity work\, which delves into the interplay between our internal processes and external interactions. This framework examines how our subconscious thoughts and behaviors\, often operating on autopilot\, influence our engagement with others and ultimately shape the outcomes of equity efforts. EOE’s approach is rooted in organizational development\, social equity\, and change management\, recognizing humans as the dynamic “chaos variable” in equity work. Rather than sidelining individual subjectivity\, EOE emphasizes its central role in shaping perceptions and behaviors\, including understanding gender dynamics and evolving terminology around gender. \nClick here to register for the Gender Justice training!\nThis is an in-person training on Tuesday\, October 8th at the Washington Women’s Foundation. We will have virtual access and we encourage you to participate in person if able. There will be a pre-event survey to understand the landscape of gender justice and how we interact with gender throughout the world. \nPlease direct questions to programs@wawomensfdn.org.

SUMMARY:MET: Redlining Heritage Trail Tour + Lunch @ Wing Luke Museum (MEMBERS ONLY)
DESCRIPTION:The Membership Experience Team (MET) will be inviting you to some special social and educational events this spring and summer. It will be a chance to finally have time to catch up with old friends and meet new ones in person! The goal of MET is to increase and maintain membership by engaging members in activities that are social\, activities that explore and educate\, and activities that highlight WaWF’s strategic plan and values. We hope that all members will feel a part of this committee\, their work and share any ideas you have or can offer for activities to encourage participation. \nThe Redlining Heritage Trail Tour is offered by the Wing Luke Museum and is produced in partnership with the National Park Service and Northwest African American Museum. Join us on Friday May 3rd at 11:00am as we walk through the Chinatown-International District and Central District. The tour will educate us about housing exclusion in Seattle and how the communities came together to make change. Though many believe Seattle as a liberal city\, the history of redlining and the road towards open housing has been a long struggle. Knowing the history of redlining and the Civil Rights movement in Seattle is necessary as we continue to explore themes of gentrification and displacement as time goes on. Take a walk with us to hear the stories of home\, and to celebrate BIPOC communities that are currently and were historically marginalized in Seattle. \nThe guided tour is 90 minutes long. The tour covers approximately 1 mile of travel on city sidewalks with elevation changes and indoors in a historic building. We would start in the Wing Luke Museum building at the Tateuchi Story Theatre before heading out into the neighborhood\, and then end back at the museum. Register early: this event has space for only 20 members. This tour is $21.00 per person\, payable upon arrival at the museum.  \nRegister here for the Redlining Heritage Trail Tour!\nJoin us for a no host lunch at 1:00pm at Jade Garden\, a lively dim sum restaurant near the museum. Please RSVP for the tour or for the tour and lunch. Please direct questions to MET co-leader\, Aru at aruvc@hotmail.com.

SUMMARY:Your Money Story & Philanthropy (MEMBERS ONLY)
DESCRIPTION:Join us as at our 2024 Philanthropy Series for the session\, “Your Money Story & Philanthropy” which will inspire and encourage you to share and discuss your money story and philanthropic journey. Jen Risher\, author of We Need to Talk: A Memoir About Wealth\,” will lead us in a conversation to explore our habits\, beliefs\, and values around money. What did you learn about saving\, spending\, giving when you were growing up? What were your parents’ attitudes about money? \nMoney and philanthropy can be difficult to discuss. Attributing value to socioeconomic status makes talking about money\, and wealth especially\, taboo. It is our silence that sanctifies us from examining our relationship with money and keeps the status quo in place. Here is a chance to break that silence\, do some learning\, and build intimacy through conversation. This event is for folks with all different relationships with money\, so if you’re curious and want to dive in together\, we encourage you to join us. \nFor preparation\, we ask that you purchase and read Jen’s book and come prepared to share some of what you learned about money as a child. We will also talk about giving and discuss our philanthropic journeys. You can purchase We Need to Talk here! \nJennifer Risher is an author\, speaker\, philanthropist\, and investor on a mission to move money out of the taboo category and help us have much-needed conversations. Her book\, “We Need to Talk: A Memoir About Wealth\,” explores the impact of wealth on identity and relationships. In sharing her story\, Jennifer aims to validate the emotional complexities of money and help those with wealth move out of guilt\, shame\, or a desire to keep money hidden and into meaning\, joy\, and purpose. In 2020\, Jennifer and her husband\, David\, launched #HalfMyDAF to inspire more charitable giving. Over the last four years\, they’ve contributed millions in matching funds\, rallied donors and nonprofits\, and created a community that has moved over $50 million to nonprofits. \nClick here to register for Your Money Story!\nThis is a virtual learning opportunity on Zoom on April 18th at 12:00PM. SUMMARY:How to Conduct Conversations (MEMBERS ONLY)
DESCRIPTION:The Collective Grants are the cornerstone of Washington Women’s Foundation’s (WaWF) work as a collective giving organization\, and a great way to connect with other members and learn about what’s happening in our community. This is the third full committee training for the 2024 Collective Grants Committee. Our focus will be to prepare for the Conversations Phase of the grant process.\n\n\nHaving a conversation with a nonprofit as part of a grant process is an exciting\, energizing opportunity to more deeply understand their work. As a grantmaker\, how do you ensure that the conversation answers any outstanding questions? What can we as grantmakers do to set the tone of a positive and rewarding experience for everyone? By the end of this session\, participants will know basic etiquette and gain tools and strategies to minimize the effect of power dynamics between grantmakers and grant seekers.\nClick here to register for How to Conduct Conversations!\nThis virtual training is taking place on Tuesday\, April 16th\, at 12PM. Please email programs@wawomensfdn.org with any questions.  \n
